KABUL (Pajhwok): The Afghanistan National Security Council (NSC) has announced that teachers, elderly people and prisoners would also be administered the Covid-19 vaccine.

The council in a statement on Thursday said Covid-19 vaccination monitoring committee held a meeting on the vaccine administration. The meeting was chaired by Sidiqullah Fahim, deputy advisor of National Security Council, and attended by other members of the committee.

Based on the decision of the meeting, nomads, the internally displaced, returnees, employees of the government and people living in rural areas would be vaccinated in the first stage.

The meeting also discussed thorough monitoring of the vaccination drive.

Afghanistan has received around 1,000,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccine from India and another entity.

In Afghanistan, 56,943 people have been infected with the virus and 2,516 others have died and nearly 52,000 others recovered from the pandemic.
