Peace govt, Loya Jirga part of Ghani’s peace plan

KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani has unveiled that establishment of a peace government and holding Loya Jirga or grand council is part of his peace plan being presented to Turkey Summit on the Afghan peace process.

Ghani made the statements during a meeting in the Presidential Palace held on Wednesday evening and broadcasted live on the state television.

He said that his peace plan was prepared in three stages which include reaching a political agreement, creation of a peace government and state building.

He added that any agreements reached with the Taliban should be also in agreement of the Afghan people, something he added was possible through Loya Jirga.

Ghani voiced on the Taliban to appear in Loya Jirga with the Afghan people after the first phase of the peace plan was completed.

“After reaching a political agreement, I hope the Taliban would sit with the Afghan nation and we will see who will convince who in 52 committees,” he said.

The president said that he was ready to shorten time for an elected government but they would not welcome any peace which would be the beginning of another war.

He said that the government was fully prepared to participate the Turkey Summit on Afghan peace. The summit which will be attended by representatives from the Afghan government, Taliban and the international community is expected to hold in April.

Ghani termed ongoing peace efforts an opportunity for end of 42 years of conflict in Afghanistan and it was the responsibility of the state and nation to make the chance to a reality.

The peace which will come to Afghanistan should be guaranteed by the UN Security Council and the international community, he concluded.
