KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghan Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) on Sunday said Afghanistan annually required 2.9 million liters of milk but last year, more than 2.1 million liters of milk was produced nationwide.
MAIL in a statement on Sunday said nearly 2.171 million liters of milk had been produced in Afghanistan last solar year (1399).
The statement said the milk came from Faryab, Baghlan, Takhar, MaidanWardak, Herat, Balkh, Kandahar, Kunduz and Samangan provinces.
The source added Afghanistan currently has 1,819 dairy cattle and most of dairy farms were in the aforementioned provinces.
The country needs 2.9 million liters of milk on annual basis and nearly a million liters of the required milk is imported from abroad, the source added.
