KABUL (Pajhwok): The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan unified a single peace plan from over a dozen peace proposals and handed over the leadership of High Council for National Reconciliation (HCNR) for approval on Sunday.

HCNR Spokesperson Faraidon Khwazon told Pajhwok Afghan News that a committee headed by former Vice President Younus Qanoni worked on different peace proposals and prepared a unified peace plan.

After several days of work, the committee was finally able to finalize the draft peace plan and refer it to the Leadership Committee of HCNR, he said.

Chairman of HCNR, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah thanked Qanoni for his speedy work on unification of peace proposals and then integrating them to a single peace plan.

An official who wished to go unnamed, said that the proposals unified into a single peace plan belonged to politicians Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, Abdul Rab Rassoul Sayyaf, Karim Khalili, Abdul Rashid Dostum and parties including Afghan Millat, Jamiat-i-Islami party under the leadership of Atta Mohammad Noor, parliament, and associations of women, youths and some other groups.

The source said that a number of Afghan political leaders also shared their recommendations about peace in written forms to the council.

Some sources said that a number of political groups directly shared their recommendations with the US special envoy for Afghan Reconciliation Process, Zalmay Khalilzad.

Another official who wished anonymity in this report said that some politicians emphasized on a decentralized government in the country.

The official said that there were still differences over the government’s unified peace plan. The divisions are over the period of the (transitional, peace government), the source said.

The Afghan government tries to present its own peace plan over the one introduced by the US to the Turkey Summit expected in April. However, some political groups want to directly present their proposals to the summit without consulting with the government.
