KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Security officials in northeastern Kunduz province have said 36 Taliban have been killed and 15 others wounded during clashes with Afghan forces in the province.
Col. Shah Mahmood Fazli, chief of staff of 217 Pamir Military Corps told Pajhwok Afghan News that Afghan forces launched operations against Taliban militants in Imam Sahib district of Kunduz province since the last four days.
He said 36 Taliban have been killed and 15 others wounded during the operation.
“Taliban sneaked to Imam Sahib district from other areas and they wanted to capture the district but security forces launched operations against them” he added.
Kunduz police chief, Brig. Gen. Farid Mashal said that operations were currently underway in Joi Bigum, Ismail Qishlaq and Qirghiz areas of Imam Sahib district.
Afghan forces captured some areas from the Taliban who also suffered casualties in the fight, he said.
Taliban did not comment about operations in Imam Sahib district.
Elsewhere in the province, a security official who wished to go unnamed, said that three policemen were killed in a Taliban attack on a security post in Ibrahimkhel area in the capital of Kunduz province on Saturday night.
Amruddin Wali, a member of Kunduz provincial council confirmed the attack but had no information about casualties in the incident.
“It was an intense fight, no one could sleep the whole night, serious measures should be taken for improving the security situation,” he said.
A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed the incident and claimed four security personnel were killed and five others wounded.
Clashes between Afghan forces and the Taliban have recently intensified across the country.
