KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) on Thursday said strawberry production in the country reached nearly 300 metric tons last solar year.
MAIL in a statement said figures from the statistics and information department indicated that 299 metric tons of strawberries had been produced in the country in solar year 1399.
The statement added Herat produced 155 metric tons of strawberries on 31 hectares of agricultural land.
Similarly Kunduz and Balkh produced most of the strawberries.
Strawberries are also cultivated in Faryab, Daikundi, Sar-i-Pul and MaidanWardak provinces.
According to the statement, strawberries were cultivated on 62 hectares of land in Afghanistan in the year 1399.
Afghanistan’s climate condition is favorable for growing strawberries which are rich in vitamins and nutrients and cost up to 200 afghanis per kilogram.
