PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Pakistan would continue supporting the Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process, promises the country’s powerful army chief.
Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa reaffirmed Pakistan’s promise during a phone call with US Secretary of State Antony John Blinken on Wednesday.
During the phone call from the US secretary of state, the two sides discussed latest developments in the Afghan peace process,
The military’s media wing quoted Gen. Bajwa as saying: “Pakistan will always support an Afghan-led, Afghan-owned peace process based on mutual consensus of all stakeholders.”
The call comes a day after US officials said America was considering pulling out all its troops from Afghanistan by September 11.
The army chief and Secretary Blinken also conferred on matters of mutual interest and the regional security situation during their telephonic conversation.
A statement from the military said: “The US dignitary acknowledged Pakistan’s continuous efforts for peace and stability in the region and pledged to further enhance bilateral relations between both countries.”
