PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): A peaceful and stable Afghanistan is in the best interest of Pakistan, says the country’s foreign minister.
Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi made the remarks in a telephone conversation with his Afghan counterpart Hanif Atmar.
A statement from the Foreign Office in Islamabad said on Sunday the two sides discussed the ongoing Afghan peace process.
Currently on a three-day visit to Dubai, Qureshi said Pakistan backed all efforts for bringing peace and stability to the region.
Desiring an immediate end to violent incidents in the neighbouring country, Qureshi promised Pakistan’s consistent efforts for reconciliation in Afghanistan.
Atmar appreciated the diplomatic, political and moral support extended by Pakistan for a result-oriented Afghan peace process.
“Both sides also agreed to meet in Istanbul, Turkey. Qureshi also invited Atmar to visit Pakistan after the Istanbul process,” the Foreign Office said.
