HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Two uprising members were killed and 12 civilians and another four uprising members were injured in a car bomb attack in the Ghoryan district of western Herat province last night.
Herat governor SayedAbdulWahid Qetali told Pajhwok Afghan News the Taliban carried out a car-bomb explosion on a base of public uprising force near Ghoryan district police headquarters at around 2am on Monday night.
He said the security forces identified and targeted the car-bomb before reaching its target.
The blast killed two public uprising personnel and injured four others besides injuring 12 civilians including women and children inside their homes. Four residential houses were also destroyed in the blast.
The governor said the Taliban also suffered casualties in a clash following the blast and the rebels took away their dead and wounded comrades.
Tariq Aryan, spokesman of the Ministry of Interior (MoI), confirmed the car-bomb attack and said a suicide bomber who wanted to explode an explosives-packed car on Ghoryan district police headquarters was identified and targeted by the police.
He added one police officer was slightly wounded in the incident.
Meanwhile residents of Ghoryan district said the car-bomb resulted in huge financial losses to people, adding that houses near the explosion area were partially damaged.
The Taliban have not yet commented in this regard.
A few days ago, three security personnel were killed and eight others wounded as a result of a Taliban car-bomb attack on Bazarak security post of Zindajan district close to Ghoryan district.
