ASADABAD/HERAT (Pajhwok): Hundreds of residents of western Herat and eastern Kunar provinces held demonstrations to demand permanent ceasefire and peace in Afghanistan.
Dozens of tribal elders, religious scholars, civil society activists and disabled people in Asadabad, the capital of Kunar, urged the government and Taliban to declare peace and permanent ceasefire.
The protesters asked the Taliban to refrain from Afghans’ killing and make peace and permanent ceasefire in the country.
A religious scholar, MaulviAjmal, said the Afghan war as unlawful and called on the government opponents as puppets and spies of foreigners.
MaulviZiaulRahmanUllah, KunarUlema council head, called on the Taliban to initially declare permanent ceasefire and help succeed the intra-Afghan peace parleys.
He hailed US troops’ withdrawal from Afghanistan and urged the masses to cooperate with Afghan National defense force in defending the country.
Separately, hundreds of Herat residents took to the streets, urging the Taliban to come to peaceful terms with the Afghan government.
The demonstration was attended by youth, civil rights activists and other people.
