KABUL (Pajhwok): US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation ZalmayKhalilzad on Monday arrived in Kabul for consultations with government leaders on the peace process.
A government official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Ambassador Khalilzad landed in Kabul today morning.
The President Joe Biden’s point man traveled to Qatar last week where he participated in extended troika meeting of representatives from US, China, Russia and Pakistan.
Khalilzad also held separate meetings with government and Taliban negotiators in Doha.
On Sunday, Khalilzad visited Uzbekistan where he met with foreign minister AbdulazizKamilov and Afghanistan’s Junbish party leader Marshal Abdul Rashid Dostum and they discussed the peace process.
Ambassador Khalilzad tweeted: “I met today in Tashkent with my good friend Foreign Minister AbdulazizKamilov.”
“We agreed at this critical time, all stakeholders (Afghan, regional, & international) must urgently support progress toward an inclusive political settlement that ends over 40 years of war in Afghanistan.”
The diplomat said they also agreed the US and Uzbekistan would continue to work together on initiatives enhancing regional trade, connectivity and economic development.
