KABUL (Pajhwok): A top US official has said his country is committed to helping ensure the talks in Doha continue and the parties meet in Istanbul.
Talking to Pajhwok Afghan news, the US official on the condition of anonymity said US often remind the Taliban of their commitment to reducing violence but the situation worsened.
“We have made it clear to the Taliban that any interference during withdrawal process would be responded forcefully”
The diplomat said that the US embassy in Kabul will remain in Afghanistan and will continue its diplomatic mission.
Referring to the role of Afghanistan’s neighbors, the official said that they feel the same as Afghan government do.
“They want stable Afghanistan, they value and support the Islamic republic and oppose Islamic Emirates, they support election not dictatorship, they talked about supporting past years development, human and women rights.”
“Of course we know there is history, Afghanistan neighbors fear civil war and ugly future, US tried to include them in the Afghan peace process, US tried to have conversation with Afghanistan neighbors that share interest with US.”
Without an appropriate conversation with Afghanistan neighbors, efforts that involve several countries and the UN are not going to succeed, the official added.
