KABUL (Pajhwok): A UN-led conference on fast-tracking the Afghan peace process is likely to be held in Turkey in the last week of May or first week of June, says a news report.
Earlier in the month, the Istanbul summit on Afghanistan had to be postponed in the wake of Taliban’s refusal to attend the event.
High Council for National Reconciliation (HCNR) Deputy Chairman Haji Din Mohammad said on Wednesday he expected the talks would happen within weeks.
TOLOnews quoted Mohammad as saying the Taliban and the US were holding talks on the complete withdrawal of foreign forces. He believed the Americans would be out of leave Afghanistan by early July.
During his recent swing through the region, US special envoy Zalmay Khalilzad drummed up support for the peace process in Afghanistan and hilding of the proposed meeting in Turkey.
