PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Three government security personnel and seven public Uprising members have been in central Logar province, sources said on Sunday.

A security official, wishing anonymity, told Pajhwok Afghan News the Taliban captured a checkpoint in the Tangi Waghjan area of Pul-i-Alam on Saturday night.

He said police retaliated for half an hour but the Taliban seized the security post and killed three policemen.

The source added a vehicle of the public uprising force struck a landmine in Mohammad Agha district. Seven pro-government fighters, including a commander, were killed on the blast.

Asadullah, a resident of Tangi Waghjan area, said the government forces and Taliban clashed last night.

He said police retaliated for some time but the security post collapsed to the attackers as reinforcements failed to arrive in time.

Without commenting on the casualties of the security forces, the governor’s office said seven Taliban, including notorious commander Mullah Qate Kulangari, were killed in the Sarsang area of the provincial capital.

But Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said some government security personnel suffered casualties as a result of attacks from the fighters.

Two days ago, a dozen security personnel were killed in Taliban attacks in the central province.
