KABUL (Pajhwok): The Afghan government and the global fraternity have vehemently denounced Saturday’s deadly attack near a girls’ school in Kabul.
Fifty-five people were killed and 150 others, mostly girl students, wounded in a series of explosions the Dasht-i-Barch area of the capital.
President Ashraf Ghani, condemning the attack, blamed the Taliban even as the insurgent group denied its involvement. The group accused Daesh of conducting the assault.
Ghani said in a statement: “The Taliban, by escalating their illegitimate war and violence, have once again shown that they are not reluctant to resolve the current crisis peacefully, but by complicating the situation.”
the US State Department said: “We offer our condolences to the victims, many of whom were children, and their families. We call for an immediate end to violence and the senseless targeting of innocent civilians.
“We will continue to support and partner with the people of Afghanistan, who are determined to see to it that the gains of the past two decades aren’t erased.”
Top US diplomat in Kabul Ross Wilson also denounced the attack in a tweet. “With scores murdered, this unforgivable attack on children is an assault on Afghanistan’s future, which cannot stand.”
The European Union mission in Afghanistan denounced the attack as horrendous. “[This] … is a despicable act of terrorism,” the mission tweeted.
It added: “Targeting students makes this an attack on the future of Afghanistan. On young people determined to improve their country.”
The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) voiced its “deep revulsion” at the bomb assault.
In Islamabad, the Foreign Office spokesman slammed the attack as unacceptable. Pakistan underlined an immediate resumption of peace talks.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh slammed the terrorist attack on ordinary people, especially schoolchildren.
He extended sincere condolence to the victims’ families and expressed deep sympathy with relatives of the injured.
In Doha, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs renewed Qatar’s rejection of violence and terrorism — regardless of the motives.
In a statement, the ministry expressed Qatar’s condolences to the families of the victims, the government, and people of Afghanistan.
