KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): At least 11 people were killed and 23 others wounded when a passenger vehicle struck a roadside bomb in southern Zabul province, an official said on Monday.
The incident took place in the Khwaja Baba area of Shahr-i-Safa district on the night between Sunday and Monday.
Col. Sayed Baba Mansoori, commander of the 2nd brigade of the Afghan National Army, told Pajhwok Afghan News a 404-type passenger bus -- heading to Kandahar from Kabul -- hit the roadside bomb.
He said the blast left the vehicle damaged and caused heavy casualties to the passengers.
Haji Atta Jan Haqbayan, the provincial council chief, told Pajhwok the blast hit the 404 model vehicle, which belonged to the Mirwais Neka transportation company.
He said 11 people were killed and 23 others wounded in the bombing. The injured were evacuated to the Mirwais Hospital in Kandahar City.
Dr. Nazir Harifal, director of the Zabul Civil Hospital, confirmed receiving 10 bodies from the site.
A doctor at Mirwais Hospital said 23 bodies and wounded had been brought to the hospital from Zabul. Children are also among the wounded.
