KABUL (Pajhwok): President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani on Monday termed regional countries particularly Pakistan’s role in Afghan peace process and its influence on the Taliban is crucial.
The president said this during a meeting with Pakistani Army Chief Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa who called on him at Presidential Palace, according to a tweet from presidency.
Chief of the Defence Staff UK General Sir Nicholas Patrick Carter also accompanied Gen. Bajwa during the visit and in the meeting.
President Ghani noted that both Afghanistan and Pakistan have no other option but to engage in mutual respect and cordial economic cooperation.
Ghani said Afghanistan’s conflict has no military solution and the Taliban had been pressing on military solution which is not acceptable to the people of Afghanistan. The people of Afghanistan, he said strived for just and durable peace through dialogue.
