KABUL (Pajhwok): The Taliban have overrun the Nirkh district headquarters in central Maidan Wardak province, a public representative says.
Provincial council member Sharifullah Hotak confirmed to Associated Press the insurgents took control of the district headquarters on Tuesday.
Nirkh, one of the restive districts of Wardak, is located along the central highway linking Kabul to southern Kandahar province.
In a statement on his Twitter account, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed the fighters had seized the district and snatched weapons and military equipment.
The fighters had killed and captured several members of the security forces, Mujahid claimed.
