KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani congratulated university and high school students on Eidul Fitr during a meeting last night and stressed on resolving the issue of dormitories.

At the beginning, a female student spoke on behalf of others and congratulated the president on the occasion of Eid and thanked him for his attention to students and peace efforts, a statement from the Presidential Palace said.

She said women did not want a return to the past and they could no longer be restricted to the four walls of home. She also called for improved quality of education and solution to the lack of hostels for students.

President Ghani later asked the relevant organs to share their programs, analysis and specific proposals so that action could be taken to solve the problem of hostels.

Ghani said dormitories should be apolitical, non-military and absolutely national and should be managed according to rules and regulations.

The president said: “When we have unity and solidarity, no one can defeat us”.

From now on, the president said, the Afghan peace process would be Afghan-led and Afghan-owned and would be taken forward as per their intentions and plans.

He also called on the youth to raise their voices and increase their efforts in support of unity, the constitution, elections and the republic.

The peace process stalled mainly after the US and NATO announced they are withdrawing their troops from Afghanistan until September 11 this year.

The Taliban say all foreign troops should have left Afghanistan on May 1 under the Doha agreement between them and the United States.

They say the delay in withdrawing foreign troops violates the Doha Agreement, which calls for the release of Taliban remaining prisoners and the removal of their leaders from the blacklist.
