Hurried US exit has harmed Afghan peace process: China

KABUL (Pajhwok): America’s hasty troop withdrawal from Afghanistan has negatively affected the Afghan peace process and regional stability, claims China.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi noted a hurried pullout of US troops had already dealt a serious blow to the peace process in Afghanistan.

The US exit has also negatively impinged on regional stability, the minister said, hoping the UN would play its due role in stabilising Afghanistan.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) needed to closely monitor the situation, a statement from the foreign ministry in Beijing quoted Wang Yi as saying.

In a phone call with his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi, he stressed Afghanistan’s neighbours must strengthen relations, join efforts and take coordinated action to deal with the situation in Afghanistan.
