HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): The Police chief for the Torghondai Township of western Herat has been killed in a Taliban ambush, government officials said on Tuesday.

Herat Governor Syed Abdul Wahid Qatali told Pajhwok Afghan news Feroz Ahmad Achakzai, the police officer, was trapped in Taliban’s ambush in the township on Monday night.

He said Achakzai was initially wounded in the insurgent attack. However, the governor added, the police official later succumbed to his wounds.

Police spokesman, Abdul Ahad Walizada, confirming the incident to Pajhwok Afghan News, said Achakzai was killed in a Taliban ambush last night.

Meanwhile, the governor said the Taliban attacked the Oba district of the province overnight. Three fighters, including a commander, were killed in a counterattack by the security forces.
