KABUL (Pajhwok): The United States has blamed the Taliban for the escalating violence Afghanistan and violating agreements in peace parleys.
US Charge d’Affaires Ross Wilson accused the militant movement of conducting major attacks in recent months against Afghan forces and civilians in different parts of the country
In an interview aired on Wednesday, the envoy saw no justification for the Taliban-linked violence, considering the group’s involvement in negotiations with the Afghan government.
Wilson told AFP: “We have been deeply disappointed with the Taliban behaviour and the continuation of high and really unjustifiable levels of violence against Afghans.”
However, he explained they were still trying to achieve a political settlement that would lead to a ceasefire and a permanent end to the war.
He went on to say the Islamic State terrorist group — locally known as Daesh — was still a potent force in Afghanistan.
The diplomat held the extremist outfit responsible for recent deadly attacks on a school in Dasht-i- Barchi and a mosque in Shakardara district.
“ISIS remains a potent force here — that is among many reasons why we continue to provide security and counter-terrorism assistance to the Afghan authorities,” he explained.
