KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Security Forces in a series of raids in Kunduz city, the capital of northern Kunduz province, have arrested nine individuals over links with Taliban militants, the governor said on Thursday.
Kunduz Governor, AbdulSattar Mirzakwal while parading the suspects with their faces covered to media persons, said Taliban insurgents planned to capture Kunduz city after Eid but their plan was thwarted.
The governor said security forces launched a series of raids in Kunduz city today and arrested nine individuals over links with the Taliban.
Kunduz police chief, General FaridMashal said the arrested men were Taliban fighters and they planned to attack security posts.
He said the arrested persons were involved in assassination of government officials and propagating for the Taliban.
The police chief said they had also recovered weapons from the detainees.
Faces of the detainees were covered and they were not allowed to be interviewed.
The Taliban on the other hand have not commented on the matter so far.
Lately, clashes between Taliban and government forces have intensified in Kunduz province, forcing many families to migrate to other areas.
