MEHTHARLAM (Pajhwok): The Taliban have taken control of the Dawlat Shah district of eastern Laghman province, local sources said on Thursday.
A security official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Pajhwok Afghan News the district was overrun by the insurgents on Thursday morning.
The fighters stormed the district late on Wednesday, he said, fearing casualties might from ensuing clashes. The security forces could not be contacted immediately.
Police spokesman Ghulamullah Afghanyar confirmed that security forces tactically retreated from the district centre at around 7:00am.
But the official said the security personnel had again reached the district building and launched an operation to retake it.
Resident Obaidullah confirmed the district’s into the hands of Taliban, who are yet to comment in this regard.
