PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Pakistan says it is doing all it can to promote a peaceful political settlement in neighbouring Afghanistan.
Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said: “Peace in Afghanistan is a collective responsibility of all Afghan groups and of key external stakeholders.”
At virtual meetings with US lawmakers on Saturday, Qureshi underlined his country’s desire for a broad-based, strategic partnership with the US, which would also cover Afghanistan.
Speaking to members of the House of Representatives and the Senate, the minister also called for encouraging regional trade and development.
According to Dawn, House Subcommittee members praised Pakistan’s efforts for peace in Afghanistan.
After the meetings, Qureshi told reporters he would stay in touch with US lawmakers to keep them informed of the regional situation, particularly of the developments in Afghanistan.
