HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Afghan National Army (ANA) commandos have released 42 captives during a raid on a Taliban-controlled prison in western Herat province.
“The ANA Special Force members raided the Taliban prison in the Marwa village of Pashtoon Zarghoon district on Monday night,” the Ministry of Defence said:
In a statement on Tuesday, the ministry said 42 prisoners,, including 20 civilians and 22 security personnel, were rescued from the militant-run jail.
Jilani Farhad, the governor’s spokesman, confirmed the overnight raid, saying seven militants guarding the prison were killed.
One machine gun, four Kalashnikov rifles, one binocular, two walkie-talkies and six motorcycles were seized by the security forces.
On Monday, the commands also released eight individuals from a Taliban jail in northern Baghlan.
