KABUL (Pajhwok): To frustrate Taliban’s efforts to seize Kabul, hundreds of international troops would remain in Afghanistan, reports a British newspaper.
A Turkish garrison would be deployed near the Hamid Karzai International Airport in the capital, The Sun reported on Wednesday.
According to the tabloid, 600 US marines and unspecified number of British troops could be deployed to guard the US embassy in Kabul.
Unnamed civilian and military sources describe the airport as “key”, saying without access to the facility, “Kabul crumbles”.
With foreign forces leaving Afghanistan, Australia announced on Tuesday it was shutting down its embassy in Kabul due to security concerns.
