SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): A young boy killed his two brothers each 10 and 12 years old and injured his mother using a Kalashnikov last night in this capital city of northern Jawzjan province.

Jawzjan police spokesman Massoud Nadim said the killer, Akhtar Mohammad, without any visible reasons shot injured three of his family members. The two brothers succumbed to their wounds in hospital and their mother was said to be in critical condition.

Nadim said Akhtar Mohammad’s mother was under treatment in the provincial hospital and police had started investigating the case.

Nadim added that the motive behind the incident was not known as yet.

Another source in the police headquarters, who wished anonymity, said the perpetrator had drunk alcohol when he committed the crime.

Human rights director of Faryab, Sar-i-Pul and Jawzjan provinces, Maghfirat Samimi, said Akhtar Mohammad was under the influence of alcohol when he shot his two sleeping brothers and mother in their house on Wednesday night.

While expressing concern about the incident, she said such incidents could not be prevented until illegal weapons were kept in homes.

Samimi said the family has to be investigated for holding an illegal weapon and that where did the weapon come from.

Surgery in-charge of Jawzjan provincial hospital said the wounded woman was not in stable condition as she had been shot multiple bullets and that her leg bone had cracked.

Last month, a man shot dead his wife in Masarabad village of Shiberghan city and fled the area but later was arrested by police.
