PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): The leader of a key right-wing party has warned the Pakistan government against giving airbases to the United States.
Jamaat-i-Islami head Sirajul Haq threatened a march on Islamabad if the government of Prime Minister Imran Khan gave the US military bases anywhere in Pakistan.
Addressing a massive rally, Haq promised his party JI would not allow the use of Pakistan’s soil against Afghanistan.
“We stand by Afghanistan and we want a stable government there in line with the wishes of the Afghans,” he told thousands of party workers.
Although Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi had rejected reports about the handover of bases to the US, the Jamaat chief made clear no one would be allowed to use the country’s soil against Afghanistan.
He demanded details about giving airbases to the US and agreements with the superpower should be discussed in the parliament.
