HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): The deputy head of religious scholars’ council was gunned down in the Injil district of western Herat province on Thursday, security officials said.
Police spokesman Abdul Ahad Walizada said Maulvi Mohammad Kababiani, deputy head of the Ulema Council in the western zone, came under attack on his way home from a mosque.
He was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in the Kababian village of Injil district on Thursday morning, the police spokesman said.
He added two assailants riding a motorcycle fled the scene and efforts were underway to apprehend the perpetrators.
