KABUL (Pajhwok): High Council for National Reconciliation (HCNR) chairman Abdullah Abdullah on Thursday said the Afghan people had showed their willingness for peace and the Taliban were committing a great mistake if they think there was no need for peace after foreign forces withdrawal from the country.
Dr. Abdullah made the statement during a commemoration ceremony of a prominent Afghan Islamic scholar, Dr. Mohammad AyazNiazai who was killed last year.
The former chief executive officer said that peace was not only a political discussion or a wish, but it was the only need and demand of the Afghan people.
The Afghan people again showed their preparedness for peace but if the Taliban think that there is no need for peace after foreign forces leave the country, then they are at great mistake, he said.
“The voice of all people is one that they want peace, a peace that should be dignified and there should be no one loser in it, no one should proud of winning the war and build their country as a Muslim and an Afghan,” he said.
He said countries that had reached a great point today had first solved problems among their people.
Abdullah said there was a chance for peace and if any side continued killing of innocent people and followed obstinacy, it would not end the ongoing war and would be also responsible for prolonging the conflict.
Participants of the gathering renewed their calls for investigation into assassination of Mohammad AyazNiazai.
Niazai who was a scholar and lecturer of Sharia law in Kabul University was killed in an explosion in Mohammad Wazir Akbar mosque last year.
