KABUL (Pajhwok): Jabha-e-Nijat (Salvation Front) leader Zabihullah Mujadidi on Saturday claimed that distribution of arms was ongoing in the country, which he described as a huge crime and threat to the future of Afghanistan.
“Our unity can take us to peace. If we don’t get together and become one voice we cannot reach peace. National interest is always above other interests and we should give priority to our national interest over personal one.”
While critisising the government during a gathering organized by the Harakat-e-Islami Millat Afghanistan, he said: “We should not distance ourselves from our government, the continuation of this war after the withdrawal of foreign forces has no legitimacy and there is no logic for the Taliban to continue fighting. One day they will become part of government and they should not diminish the vital assets of the nation through conflict.”
Without naming anyone, Mujadidi said: “There is problem within the government with regard to the peace process. There are some elements whose interests are in war and they believe by establishment of peace they will not be relevant anymore. If there is peace the people of Afghanistan will not let anyone become important.”
Mujadidi criticized the international community and added they did not want peace in Afghanistan, adding that practically targeted killing of ulema, religious leaders was underway.
“Unfortunately, foreign resources are being utilised and weapons are being distributed in the country. Until the occupiers have an upper hand in the country we cannot reach peace, the nation should wake up.”
He said credible evidence was available that the process of arms distribution had started. Mujadidi asked government and the Taliban to stop fighting and reconcile.
