KABUL (Pajhwok): The National Statistics and Information Authority (NSIA) says the distribution of electronic identity (e-ID) cards to the Afghans living abroad will begin soon in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
In a statement, NSIA said an e-ID card distribution unit had been set up on the Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed road in the diplomatic area of Abu Dhabi, where the Afghan embassy building is located.
The Afghans living in the UAE could now download and fill up e-ID forms, write time and date on the applications and send them online.
After receiving client applications, the unit conducts the identity verification process at the National Identity Verification Centre in Kabul.
According to NSIA, the cost of an e-ID card is $20 in the UAE. The cards will be distributed after being printed to applicants in the UAE.
NSIA has set up the e-ID card distribution unit in the UAE at a time when it has already opened 100 such centers in the capital, provinces, districts and Iran.
About five million e-ID cards have been distributed so far, NSIA added.
