PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): At least six members of Mufariza security unit have been killed in a clash with insurgents in Dand-i-Ghori area of Pul-i-Khumri, the capital of Baghlan province, local sources said on Tuesday.
A provincial official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the government had stationed new security posts in the area and the Taliban stormed them last night.
The source, however, did not have details regarding casualties.
A local resident, Pir Mohammad, told Pajhwok Afghan News 30 fresh soldiers were stationed at a security base in Babar village of Dand-i-Ghori on Monday evening.
He added that Taliban stormed the base at night, killing six of security personnel and took away 18 others with them.
Security officials confirmed the Taliban attack on the military base but refrained from providing further details.
Spokesman of Pamir Military Corps in the north, AbdulHadiNazari said Taliban attacked the base on Monday night but there were no security personnel belonging to their corps.
He said Special Forces of the Pamir military corps have been conducting raids in central Baghlan district in order to recapture the fallen areas.
But Taliban confirmed their Monday night’s attack on the security base in Dand-i-Ghori area.
The movement’s spokesman, ZabihullahMujahid , said the rebels on Monday night attacked the security base in Babar village and killed six security personnel and captured 18 others.
