MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Government forces recaptured the Dawlatabad district of northwestern Faryab province after it was overrun by Taliban militants four days ago, officials said on Wednesday.
209 Shaheen Military Corps Commander Col. WaisAlamdar told Pajhwok Afghan News commando forces and Afghan National Army (ANA) personnel using dozens of tanks and air support went to Dawlatabad from Andkhoy district and begun their operations.
He added security personnel killed 12 Taliban insurgents and wounded 20 others in the clash.
Alamdar said security forces escaped unhurt in the operations. He added that after losing Dawlatabad district, the Taliban rallied to seize ShirinTagab district, blocking the district’s roads by throwing gravel and landmines and barring passengers and cargo vehicles.
According to the commander, security forces also removed Taliban from ShirinTagab district.
Pajhwok correspondent tried to have Taliban’s comment but failed due to interruption in telecommunication networks.
But a Dawlatabad resident told Pajhwok Afghan News that he saw commando and ANA personnel wandering in district market and building and that clashes were ongoing in some areas.
