MAIMANA (Pajhwok): The Sherin Tagab district in northwestern Faryab province fell to the Taliban on Thursday, security sources and a local representative said.
According to eyewitness, around 300 security personnel stationed in the district surrendered to the Taliban after three years of siege.
Eighty tanks, Humvee vehicles and tens of other military equipment were captured by the Taliban and all this happened due to the negligence of the government, sources said.
SibghatullahSelab, deputy head of the Provincial Council, said around 300 security personnel from different units with 165 military vehicles and weapons surrendered to the Taliban.
He said security forces wanted to get themselves out towards Mimana City, the provincial capital, but the Taliban attacked them with heavy weapons and they had no option but to surrender.
SherinTagab is the fifth district recently falling to the Taliban.
