PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): At least eight government security personnel have been killed and seven others wounded in a clash with Taliban militants in Khushi district of central Logar province.

A security source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told Pajhwok Afghan News that security forces and Taliban clashed in Khushi district last night, adding the Taliban captured Shinkai and Sarabtak security posts and also an Afghan National Army (ANA) military base.

The source added eight security personnel had been killed and seven others wounded in the clash.

Meanwhile, a local resident, Amrullah, told Pajhwok Afghan News that reinforcement did not reach the posts and they fell into Taliban hands.

Deputy provincial council head, MohammadQasimKhushiwal said the security situation in Khushi district had been deteriorating with each passing and last night the Taliban captured three security posts and inflected casualties on government security forces.

On the other hand, Logar officials and Taliban insurgents have not yet commented in this regard.

Clashes between government forces and Taliban have intensified in several provinces since last two months, with each side claiming inflicting heavy casualties on the other.
