CHARIKAR (Pajhwok): An Afghan National Army (ANA) military base in the Tagab district of central Kapisa province has fallen to Taliban militants after two days of siege, a well-placed source said on Monday.
The source added the military base in Jalokhel area was captured by the insurgents after security forces vacated the facility.
Mohammad Akram Safi, Tagab district sports director, said after three days of siege the military base fell into the hands of Taliban gunmen.
He said 30 security personnel who protected the facility had escaped while seven others surrendered to the rebels.
Police spokesperson Abdul ShaeqShorash confirmed clashes in Tagab but rejected the fall of the military base.
Eight Taliban and four security personnel had been killed in the ongoing clashes in Tagab district so far.
Tagab is one of the insecure districts of Kapisa province where the Taliban have strong presence.
