KABUL (Pajhwok): Reinforcements reached the embattled northern province of Faryab on Monday morning to retake control of the areas that fell to the Taliban.
Police spokesman Abdul Hakim Yourish said the security forces were all poised to conduct an operation to oust the Taliban from the districts they overran last week.
With the security situation fragile in several Faryab districts, fierce clashes erupted near the provincial capital Maimana on Sunday.
Also, on Sunday, the insurgents claimed capturing five districts in Takhar, one each in Samangan, Balk and Nimroz. The rebels also seized two districts in Jawzjan and one in Logar.
The Faryab police spokesman said four rebels were killed and 11 others wounded during a firefight a in the Pashtunkot district of the province.
