Zharai, Arghandab residents up in arms against Taliban aggression

KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Hundreds of local people in the Arghandab and Zharai districts have taken arms against the Taliban and for the protection of their areas.

People have taken arms after the Taliban in the recent past surge their attacks in these districts.

Public properties, homes, farms and other infrastructure destroyed during incidents of violence.

Local uprising groups members told Afghan News that insecurities, destruction of pubic and general properties forced them to take arms against the Taliban.

Abdul Rahman, the resident of Arghandab district, said finally people had been forced to take arms and protect their areas.

“We will not allow armed people to bring fighting in to our regions. They destroyed our homes, orchards, bridges and public properties,” he said.

Abdul Ghani, the resident of Zharai district, said: “Militants destroyed homes, killed people, plant landmines when six months back they came to the district.”

He said people are forced to raise up against these crimes and ensure their security.

He added people have no other option but to take arms against these crimes.

Arghandab District Chief Mohammad Sharif, said a group of 100 local uprising members in Zharia district are up in arms to protect the district from militants and fight against militants along side them.

NDS Assistant Director Abdul Tawab said after heavy fighting people in Arghandab district decided to take arms against the Taliban.
