KABUL (Pajhwok): Presidential Advisor Waheed Umar said on Tuesday that people in most areas of the country have taken up arms against the Taliban and situation would be changed in coming weeks.
He said current wave of the conflict is short, adding the Taliban have not captured territory by force but security forces have made a tactical fall back.
Umar said situation would come under control in coming two weeks and the Taliban will go back to the areas from where they had come.
He said: “One year ago, people thought the Taliban had changed and they will be ready for peace talks, but recent fighting showed the Taliban had not changed and the group never wanted peace.”
He said the Taliban have destroyed infrastructure, roads, bridges, culverts, schools and clinics in the areas they recently captured.
Presidential advisor in strategic communication said the Tailban fighting has no legitimacy, adding that renowned religious scholars, including the Imam of Kabba, issued fatwa against ongoing conflict in Afghanistan and stressed over reconciliation and peace.
Umar, however, said the Taliban have intensified fighting nationwide instead of peace and reconciliation.
He said people remembered the Taliban era and they will not go back. The Taliban have no place in the public hearts and mind.
He said Taliban presence in no district is permanent, adding that in coming two weeks the situation will changed and the Taliban will go back to the place (Pakistan) from where they came.
He criticized Provincial Council members to take care of their own affairs and not serve as spokespersons for military institutions as their statements harmed public moral.
