KABUL (Pajhwok): A number of representatives in the Wolesi Jirga and civil activists from northeastern Kunduz province called on both sides to end the ongoing conflict in the province.

A number of Wolesi Jirga members and civil society activists from Kunduz today in a press conferences discussed the issue.

Basira Rasuli, a lawmaker from the province, expressed concern over the security situation in Kunduz and said, “If there is a hidden deal then people should not be sacrificed, the conflict has reached just half kilometer of the governor’s house, Taliban should stop taking revenge from Kunduz people.”

She said that the people of the province were faced with shortage of drinking water, medicine and food since the last one week and the provincial capital was under serious threat of losing control to the Taliban if no urgent action taken.

Shakiba Jawad Hashemi, a civil society activist said that eight districts of Kunduz had fallen to the Taliban so far and the government did not take any action to recapture them.

Tajuddin Omar, another civil society activist, made similar statements. He called on the Taliban to stop fighting, saying most of the victims of the war were civilians.

The participants of the meeting issued a resolution letter, calling for an investigation into the situation in Kunduz and a cessation of violence.

The participants of the meeting asked for urgent assistance to those injured in war and the displaced people, saying that the residents of the province who trapped in their homes should be helped.
