MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Interior Ministry’s Planning and Policy Head Naqibullah Faeq on Wednesday said that the Taliban have been stopped from further advancement in northern Balkh province.
He said he visited some security posts along with Balkh governor and Shaheen Military Corps commander and added that government arranged arms and equipment to local uprising movements.
Faeq said: “Security institutions are committed to support public uprising against the Taliban. We will give you arms, weapons and logistic support not only in one province but nation-wide.”
He added changes are imminent in the battle ground sometimes and stressed that the people of Balkh alongside security forces will defend the province.
Faeq said the hundreds of locals gathering against the Taliban showed people did not want to live under the Taliban rule, adding the military operation to retake captured areas will begin soon.
Governor Farhad Azeemi assured people of the security of Mazar-i-Sharif, the provincial capital.
