SHIBIRGHAN (Pajhwok): Dozens of women in northwestern Jawzjan province took arms on a motive to defend the country, warning the Taliban to stop violence or they would fight them alongside Afghan forces.

These women who gathered in Shibirghan city, urged the Taliban to stop war and embrace peace or Afghans including women would stand against them.

Director of Jawzjan Department of Women Affairs, Muslima Atayi said dozens of women took weapons to support Afghan Security and Defense Forces in Jawzjan province.

She added armament of women was move taken following deteriorated security situation northern Afghanistan.

Atayi said the move will make the moral of Afghan forces. It is not the first time that Jawzjan women picked weapons to fight insurgents but they have done so in the past as well, she added.

Safia, one of the women who took weapon, said that she is against war but the insurgents have left them no choice but to defend their city and province.

It would be better for the insurgents to end war and make peace taking advantage of the opportunity of intra-Afghan peace talks, she added.

She urged the Taliban to put down their weapons and end the war, warning that the whole country would stand against the rebels if they did not follow the way of peace.
