MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Security forces have retreated from the Balchragh, Qarmoqul and Andkho districts to Maimana City, the capital of northwestern Faryab province, leaving the districts to the Taliban, an official said on Thursday.
Shaheen Military Corps official Col. Syed YasinSadad said security forces along with their equipment moved from Balcharagh district to Maimana on Thursday evening.
In addition, forces retreated from Qarmoqual and Qarghan districts, creating a defence line to stop the enemy.
The Taliban also captured the Andkhoi districts late on Thursday. District Chief Sultan Mohammad Sanjar said: “We pleaded for support to defend the district but a small number of security forces in the district failed to stop a large number of Taliban. I am also leaving Ankhoi district.”
