Uruzgan, Paktika residents pick up guns against Taliban

TARINKOT/SHARANA (Pajhwok): Hundreds of residents of southeastern Paktika and central Uruzgan provinces picked up weapons in support of Afghan security and defense forces.

Laced with light and heavy weapons, Uruzgan residents gathered in GhaziAmanullahKhan square in the provincial capital, Tirinkot, and told the media that their aim was to protect the country.

A member of the uprising, MaulviHamdullah said for the last three years, Taliban insurgents and other groups had been killing Afghans and had inflicted heavy casualties on people.

He added that Taliban must know that every Afghan was capable of protecting their country and Afghans would prevent progress of the insurgent group.

Another member of the uprising, Shir Mohammad Afghanzai said they picked up weapons to show that Afghan Security and Defense Forces were not alone and the public was standing with them.

The uprising public once again called on the Taliban to make peace, warning that if they do not accept peace then Afghans would fight them until the insurgent group was totally eradicated.

Separately, dozens of people in Paktika province said that they would stand with Afghan Security and Defense forces using personal equipment and facilities to defend and protect the system.

The people held a massive gathering which was attended by tribal elders and youth.

A member of the uprising, NikMohammad told Pajhwok Afghan news they picked up arms in order to protect themselves and support Afghan security and defense forces in such situation where the conflict has intensified.

He said residents of Urgon, Surobi, Zirok and some other districts had picked arms and rose against Taliban insurgents.

Mohammad added that they would use every resource in hand to protect their localities.

Head of Paktika solidarity office of civil societies, KhurshidAmanKatawazai and public representative MubinFaqirzada said people rose in these provinces because neighboring Pakistan had started conflict in Afghanistan and ruined the country’s industrial and public facilities.

Governor Dr. MujiburRahmanSamkanai thanked people for their support of Security and Defense forces and showing their bravery.

It is worth mentioning that people in other provinces have also picked up guns against insurgents as well.
