KABUL (Pajhwok): A Moscow-based military alliance has promised Tajikistan all possible help in dealing with situation on its border with Afghanistan.

Amid the worsening security environment in Afghanistan, the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) held out the assurance to Dushanbe.

RIA Novosti quoted CSTO spokesman Vladimir Zainetdinov as saying that Tajikistan’s request for assistance would be accepted under the Collective Security Treaty and the CSTO Charter.

“So far, Tajikistan has not asked the CSTO in connection with the situation that arose in Afghan areas bordering the country,” he explained.

For talks on the situation on the Afghan-Tajik border, CSTO Secretary-General Stanislav Zas is likely to visit Tajikistan in the near future.

Taliban insurgents are said to forced Afghan soldiers to flee into Tajikistan. Afghan soldiers retreated to Tajikistan as a result of a fierce Taliban offensive in northern Balkh province.
