KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani has termed high prices and poor telecommunication services unacceptable, saying there is need for quality services from companies to the people.
The president made the statements during a meeting with the leadership delegation of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT), other relevant organs and representatives of telecom companies in the Presidential Palace on Tuesday evening.
A statement from the Presidential Palace received by Pajhwok Afghan News said that meeting discussed better telecom services and recent developments in the sector, improving broadband and 4G services and resolving problems in the area.
Omar Mansoor, head of Afghanistan Telecom Regulatory Authority (ATRA) at the beginning of the meeting said that despite 307 telecom towers had been destroyed in conflicts last year, but the revenue of telecom companies and demand for services had increased.
Telecom companies’ representatives on their part, shared their future plans and renewed their commitment to continue their investments in Afghanistan.
President Ghani after listening to the officials, said that the government was serious in implementing the digitalization system and that would create more investment opportunities for traders considering to the high demand for quality services from companies.
The president praised recent activities of ATRA in regulating the telecom market and said that ATRA was a main part of the digital ecosystem, which its members should work together for improvements.
