PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Pakistan could be a partner with the United States in peace, not in conflicts, says Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Speaking in the National Assembly on Wednesday, he said the US — after realising that a military solution in Afghanistan could not be found, was asking Pakistan to bring the Taliban to the negotiating table.

Khan explained: “We neither want strategic depth in Afghanistan or a government of our choice there. Instead, we will respect the decision of the Afghan people.”

The PM once again made clear Pakistan would not give its bases to the US. “Did they acknowledge our support in the past. Instead they said we have double standards.”

He questioned the decision of past governments on making Pakistan a frontline state in the US-led war on terror.

“Can any nation sacrifice 70,000 people and suffer $150 billion for the sake of others’ wars, the prime minister asked, accusing former president Gen. Pervez Musharraf of sending Pakistanis to Guantanamo.
