KABUL (Pajhwok): Local officials in central Parwan province on Friday confirmed that foreign troops left Bagram airfield this morning and that Afghan forces would take over the airfield’s responsibility soon.
Bagram district chief Lala Sherin Raufi told Pajhwok Afghan News that foreign troops left the airfield this morning.
After the foreign troops withdrew from Bagram airfield, some locals entered the airfield and confiscated some equipment, but security forces stopped them and arrested two people in connection with the theft.
However, he did not provide details as how many tools and materials were stolen.
Abdul Hamid Tarin, Afghan National Army recruitment commander in Parwan, confirmed that foreign troops had withdrawn from Bagram airfield. He said ANA soldiers were stationed in the area before.
Under a February agreement between the United States and the Taliban, all US troops will leave Afghanistan by September 11.
The base was established nearly two decades ago as part of the US war to oust the Taliban and hunt down the al-Qaida perpetrators of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
